Cannabis users may have a “healthier inflammatory cytokine profile, better insulin sensitivity, and higher levels of physical activity than nonusers,” all of which can be linked to a potentially lower risk for diabetes, ongoing research suggested.

The University of Colorado, Boulder looked at the connection between cannabis and diabetes in a study over a four week period that concluded those inflammatory profiles attached to diabetes would improve, particularly for those using a CBD [cannabidiol] as opposed to a THC [tetrahydrocannabinol] product.”

There were several reasons as to why this was the case. First, cannabis users were more likely to do recreational exercising, like jogging for example, and found that cannabis use prior to exercise may lead to more enjoyment and high runner’s symptoms. Because of this, the BMI for cannabis users was roughly 15% lower than non-cannabis users. Also, cannabis users’ mental health and sleep quality was much higher than non-users, which also helps one’s chances of living a healthier lifestyle.
