This Spring marks the first time that gummies have surpassed smokable marijuana flower in popularity.
In a survey between April and May, 49% reported using gummies over the past six months, vs 47% reported using flower. A big reason is the expansion of the user base for marijuana. People are looking to gummies to fulfill specific needs, and wanting better sleep ranks at the top.
In the past year, there has been an explosion of products that combine a lesser-known cannabinoid, CBN, with things like melatonin. Companies have been using nocturnal-looking package designs and words like “midnight” or “snooze” in response to the surge in demand.
In March, the market share of CBN-infused gummies accounted for approximately 14% of candy-edible dollar sales in California, Colorado, Oregon, and Nevada – the four markets BDSA monitors. This represents a significant increase from less than 1% in March 2020.
