A majority of Americans have tried marijuana—and most say they had a positive experience—according to a new poll. As the federal government moves to reclassify cannabis and more states pursue psychedelics reform, the poll offers fresh insights into how people have personally used the substances and where they stand on changing drug laws.
75% of those polled said they have had positive experiences with cannabis and nearly 60% said they absolutely agree with cannabis being legalized nationally. Top two reasons that they supported legalization was that it bolsters local economies and makes the criminal justice system more fair. Only 30% of Americans said they don’t want cannabis legalized with 10% saying they were not sure.
Of those asked about their experience with cannabis, only 20% said it was a negative one. Overall, a majority of Americans both feel as if cannabis should be legalized federally and feel like their experience with cannabis, where it was once or many times, was a positive one.
